DESCRIPTION: Golden Apple Scholars of IllinoisThe Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois program prepares aspiring teachers to teach by providing intensive instruction, tuition assistance, placement services, and mentoring services to ensure that teachers are ready on day one of teaching and grow to become highly-effective teachers. The program recruits high school seniors, college freshmen and sophomores, and community college students who commit to teaching for 5 years in an Illinois school-of-need. Scholars represent a diverse group of educators: half are first-generation college students, one-third are from low-income households. Scholars receive:Up to $23,000 in financial assistanceExtensive classroom teaching experienceInstruction from award-winning educators and expert partnersJob placement assistance upon graduation from collegeMentoring in the first years of teachingGolden Apple Scholars are making an impact in education: 77% of Scholars earn their degree within 6 years82% of Scholars who enter teaching remain in the classroom for at least 5 years~50% of Scholars are from underrepresented groups - a figure that is 2.5 times that of national benchmarksTo refer a student click here.
